"If you're good at something, never do it for free."
The Joker in the 2008 released movie-The Dark Knight is perhaps one of the most remembered characters of all times. It is the conviction of his objectives that scares the people of Gotham out of their living daylights. His utter courage and simplicity in adhering to his desires is what stands out and makes people applaud him every time he appears on screen.
But this role is even more greatly remembered by the actor who played the Joker so convincingly-Heath Ledger. An actor who's defining career movies are The Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight, his early loss to the Hollywood industry is one of the major cinematic setbacks ever to take place.A role for which Ledger used to lock himself up is said to be the one that took his life.A role of a schizophrenic psychopath who kills out of sheer delight, was not a very easy one to play.Ledger put in every possible effort to get into the skin of the character. The way he did his shots, the effortless execution of his pauses in his dialogues, the perfect timing of his laughter and his effervescence in his outstanding play of words, still deluges the viewers to watch the movie again and again. Thus it does not come as a surprise that Ledger was awarded an Oscar for his acting.Unfortunately, he was dead by that time.
A mass murderer who believes in killing with no empathy for human life was simply outdone in the film by Ledger.Michael Caine in one of his interviews said that he often forgot his own lines when he used to see Ledger play his part.A role for whom many were considered, is an indelible mark in cinematic perfection. But because of playing such a psychotic character, Ledger had to undergo a lot of stress hence after. He started taking prescription drugs and an overdose of these killed him. What the Joker couldn't do in the movie, did in real life. The scenes in the movie where the Joker mentions how he got his scars are perhaps one of the best portrayals of a schizophrenic patient as he justifies how his marks are not something to get scared of.A true masterpiece, that character could only be executed by an actor as brilliant as Ledger.Got his life ended for a role that embedded his name in the golden history of outstanding cinema-Heath Ledger survives and lives on, as the Joker said-"I believe whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you a stranger."
Well must say he was an exceptional actor, some folks even match him with legendary actor James Dean...
